under the leadership of their Principal Conductor Julian Bright

Soham Band are pleased to announce the appointment of their new MD, Julian Bright. From a Salvation Army background, Julian is an accomplished conductor and cornetist having played with many top bands.


Speaking on behalf of the band David Minchin said 'Julian impressed us with his energetic and knowledgeable conducting and rapport with the band. We are very much looking forward to working with him.'


On his appointment Julian comments, 'I am absolutely delighted to accept the role as MD of Soham Comrades Band. I am really looking forward to developing a great artistic partnership with the band and in developing the concert profile of the band as well as maintaining its strong contest presence of recent years.’

Based near the Cambridgeshire and Suffolk borders, Soham Comrades Brass Band are a friendly and ambitious second section band who compete in the London and Southern Counties area under the direction of their Principal Conductor Julian Bright.


The band reached the Second Section finals in 2014 and recent contest successes have included 2nd placings at the Crawley Entertainment Contest in May 2015 and at the Milton Keynes Contest in November 2015. More recently the band achieved the runner up prize of £1000 at the 2016 Butlins Mineworkers Open National Brass Band Festival held in Skegness. The band were placed 3rd in the 2nd Section LSC regional contest held in Stevenage in March 2016 receiving the Nelson Morris Memorial Cup and maintained this consistency of placings being awarded 4th place in March 2017 with the bass section receiving the Len Smith Memorial Trophy for the best bass section.
